Michael E. Smith
Michael E. Smith is a barrister at law and is the proprietor of Smith & Co. which was established in March of 1998.
Mr. Smith practiced law as a barrister in the Temple in London for two years before returning home to Bermuda where he was called to the Bar in 1985. He was the managing partner of the former law firm of Smith Barnard & Diel prior to establishing Smith & Co. He specializes in intellectual property and litigation matters and works with both local and international corporate clients of the Firm.
Mr. Smith is a graduate of the University of South Bank in London, England where he earned his law degree with Honours in 1982. He is a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple and was called to the Bar in England & Wales in 1983.
Keivon Simons attained his LLB at the University of Kent in the UK in 2011. He then went on to complete his LPC at the University of Law in London. Upon his return to Bermuda in 2012 he worked at the Human Rights Commission and, among other tasks, assisted with the reorganisation of the commission as a result of new Human Rights legislation. In 2013 Mr. Simons commenced his pupilage with Smith & Co and was call to the bar in May 2014. During his time with the firm he has had experience with matters involving wills and probate of estates, corporate administration, civil litigation, criminal defence as well as property conveyance.
Outside of work Mr. Simons is deeply involved in the community. He is a Cub Scout leader with the 3rd Bermuda Cubs and Scout troupe stationed at Cedar Hill in Warwick, a big brother with Big Brothers and Big Sisters and is on the board of BEPRO, a junior division of the chamber of commerce.
Cherol has been with the firm since its conception in 1998 and is an experienced and dedicated part of the Smith & Co family. Her career began in 1979 with Julian Hall and partners but took off in Smith, Bernard and Diel where she met Michael and became the HR and Collections Manager in 1995. Following this she received qualifications in the Practice of Human Resources and Supervisory Management in 1997. Now, a veteran in legal operations and equipped with a toolkit for success, Cherol became the Operations and Office manager at Smith & Co where she is responsible for the overall management of the office including client files, security offices, supplies and services, staffing needs and collections.
Alanté Trott attained her university education from Oakwood University in Hunstville, Alabama. Recognized by the National Honor Society, in returning to Bermuda she pursued her devotion of constantly learning and studying the law. Intellectual property has easily become an integral part of her life. Her background includes 12 years of administrative and IT experience and she has been fully immersed in trademarks for the last two years. Alanté has a passion for assisting persons in protecting their IP and has quickly become an expert in the field.
Alanté also has experience in Probate and Conveyancing. She was involved with the firms’ representation of the U.S Consul General to Bermuda in their conveyance in February 2018.
