Michael E. Smith
Michael E. Smith is a barrister at law and is the proprietor of Smith & Co. which was established in March of 1998.
Mr. Smith practiced law as a barrister in the Temple in London for two years before returning home to Bermuda where he was called to the Bar in 1985. He was the managing partner of the former law firm of Smith Barnard & Diel prior to establishing Smith & Co. He specializes in intellectual property and litigation matters and works with both local and international corporate clients of the Firm.
Mr. Smith is a graduate of the University of South Bank in London, England where he earned his law degree with Honours in 1982. He is a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple and was called to the Bar in England & Wales in 1983.
Sharon S. Rampersad-Ible
Mrs. Sharon S. Rampersad-Ible attained her LLB at the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK in 2011. She then went on to complete her LPC and PSC, Corporate Route in Moorgate Campus, London at the University of Law. In academia Mrs. Rampersad-Ible also possess a BA English (Hons) and a Diploma in Education.
Mrs. Rampersad-Ible is licensed to practice law in two jurisdictions having been called to the Bar in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in 2016 and in Bermuda in June 2018. Even though Mrs. Rampersad-Ible specialized in Corporate Law she has garnered a wealth of experience and knowledge in the general law, which includes but is not limited to civil law, commercial law, family law, probate and conveyancing.
In her downtime Mrs. Rampersad-Ible embraces the belief that we all have a role to play in society and should always endeavour to do what we can to make the society a better place. As such she always tries to immerse herself in organizations that will lend assistance to those less fortunate and in need. She served as a member of the Executive Committee of Redcross and Acting Director of the Southern Branch of Redcross. Additionally, she served as a Non-Alcoholic Trustee (Legal Advisor) for the Board of Trustees for Alcoholic Anonymous.
Cherol has been with the firm since its conception in 1998 and is an experienced and dedicated part of the Smith & Co family. Her career began in 1979 with Julian Hall and partners but took off in Smith, Bernard and Diel where she met Michael and became the HR and Collections Manager in 1995. Following this she received qualifications in the Practice of Human Resources and Supervisory Management in 1997. Now, a veteran in legal operations and equipped with a toolkit for success, Cherol became the Operations and Office manager at Smith & Co where she is responsible for the overall management of the office including client files, security offices, supplies and services, staffing needs and collections.
Alanté Trott attained her university education from Oakwood University in Hunstville, Alabama. Recognized by the National Honor Society, in returning to Bermuda she pursued her devotion of constantly learning and studying the law. Intellectual property has easily become an integral part of her life. Her background includes 12 years of administrative and IT experience and she has been fully immersed in trademarks for the last two years. Alanté has a passion for assisting persons in protecting their IP and has quickly become an expert in the field.
Alanté also has experience in Probate and Conveyancing. She was involved with the firms’ representation of the U.S Consul General to Bermuda in their conveyance in February 2018.
